Due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic developments and based on current information available from District of Columbia health authorities and from the D.C. Convention Center, Neuroscience 2020 abstract submission, currently scheduled for July 6-16, 2020, will be delayed to August 10-19, 2020.

The Society for Neuroscience is opposed to the recent executive order extending restrictions on non-immigrant visas. By limiting the pool of talented and passionate scientists available to laboratories, universities, and private industry, this action only serves to damage scientific advancement without accomplishing any stated goals.

SfN remains committed to making decisions that are guided by public health authorities and will continue to monitor the situation to determine the effect it may have on our meeting. We will provide updates to members, volunteer leaders, exhibitors, and the field when they are available.

The Kavli Prize in Neuroscience is awarded to David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian for their independent discoveries of sensory receptors for temperature and pressure, respectively. While the mechanisms for smell and vision have long been described, a specific molecular understanding for how physical properties like temperature and pressure are detected and encoded into electrical signals the brain can process had been lacking.

In light of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic and the impact on global health, as well as disruption to daily life and business across the world, we are delaying the Neuroscience 2020 abstract submission window. The previously scheduled submission window of April 9-30, 2020 is now July 6-16, 2020.

SfN takes very seriously the unprecedented and rapidly developing global health situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus) and continues to closely monitor all developments.

Ten members of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) have been selected from a highly competitive applicant pool to travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Society’s annual Capitol Hill Day on March 5, 2020.

Iron levels in brain tissue rise during development and are correlated with cognitive abilities, according to research in children and young adults recently published in JNeurosci. Future work could lead to iron supplementation as an intervention for atypical cognitive development.
