Presenter Guidelines and Policies for SfN Events

By accepting the invitation to participate in a Society for Neuroscience (SfN) digital or in-person event, you are agreeing to follow the SfN speaker guidelines and policies outlined or noted below:

1. Ensure lectures, discussions, shared files, and any other content are directly related to the stated topic of the presentation.
2. For scientific presentations, ensure scientific rigor best practices such as: transparently reporting a study’s experimental design and analytical methods including reporting on blinding, statistics, sample sizes, and replication; define error bars; and note biological variables such as species, sex, age, strain, or cell line in the presentation, if applicable.
3. Use caution when discussing products. Where applicable, disclose any relevant financial relationships to the audience before your presentation.
4. Videos showing animal research must follow your institution’s policies regarding these materials and practices.
5. By agreeing to serve as a speaker, you understand the applicable SfN registration policies, fees, and participant requirements for the individual event, which were shared with you as part of your speaker invitation.
6. SfN is committed to supporting discovery and scientific dialogue and to fostering a welcoming community in which all scientists are able to fully contribute. The entire scientific endeavor is put at risk by misconduct, including fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, unethical treatment of animals or human subjects, sexual and gender harassment, and other harassing or harmful behaviors that are contrary to a healthy scientific exchange. Defamatory, abusive, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials or speech are strictly prohibited, as stated in the Code of Conduct (see below).
7. Follow the event-specific requirements and timelines as applicable.

SfN reserves the right to remove any presentation that violates these guidelines or is deemed inappropriate. SfN also reserves the right to take immediate action in response to violations or complaints regarding these guidelines.
