Michael Steinmetz, Ph.D., director of the NEI Division of Extramural Science Programs (DESP), passed away on July 30 following a boating accident.

Professor Sir Colin Blakemore FRS, FMedSci, HonFRCP, HonFRSM, HonFRSB, HonFBPhS, MAE, Emeritus Professor of Physiology, University of Oxford, and Emeritus Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford passed away peacefully at Sobell House on Monday June 27th surrounded by his daughters.

Gordon Murray Shepherd, MD, DPhil, professor emeritus in the Department of Neuroscience at Yale School of Medicine, passed away on June 9, 2022, after a short hospitalization at the age of 88. He was a major and passionate contributor to our knowledge of brain synaptic organization, and the mechanisms of olfaction in particular.

Hans-Joachim Pflüger, Jochen, passed away January 25, 2022. In addition to a research career as Professor of neurobiology and functional neuroanatomy at the The Free University of Berlin, Jochen volunteered his time and commitment during a significant part of his career in leadership roles for numerous European associations, including as President of the German Neuroscience Society and Treasurer of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies.

Cloyd Ovid Trouth, M.D., PhD, passed away on January 20, 2022. He was an Emeritus Professor of physiology and biophysics at the College of Medicine and graduate professor in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Howard University. Trouth was a great mentor and colleague, and he is missed by so many who had the opportunity to have worked and interacted with him. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, sister, nephews, and nieces.
