Neuronline Launches Its First-Ever Podcast
SfN’s new podcast series, The Perils of Publishing, is now available on Neuronline, iTunes, and Soundcloud. Every episode, released one per week, is available for SfN members and the public.
“I’m so excited to be the host of SfN’s Neuronline podcast series and dive deep into the experiences so many of us encounter when publishing,” says Paula Croxson, assistant professor of neuroscience and psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “The series should be of particular interest to trainees who are trying to get comfortable with the process of publishing papers — which can often be confusing and overwhelming — or reviewing them.”
In this six-part podcast, follow along the journey of two neuroscientists at the University of Pittsburgh — Bita Moghaddam, PI, and Junchol Park, trainee. They recount the excitement, challenges, and lessons they faced when moving their JNeurosci paper on anxiety from conception to publication, as well as what happened after when many media sources covered their study.
Throughout each episode, Neuron, Cell, and JNeurosci editors (Katja Brose, Mirna Kvajo, and Jim Knierim, respectively) provide commentary and offer valuable tips to understand journal processes, utilize effective writing formats, and navigate contentious issues.
“After hearing the candid insights on scientific rigor, peer review, writing, and more shared by the podcast’s guests, you’ll come away with a strong understanding of what you can do to be a successful author and reviewer.”
