The Nominating Committee creates the annual election slate for each Council position opening. The committee considers each nominee's academic excellence, racial, gender, age, geographic, and scientific diversity, and adherence to SfN's mission and strategic plan.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • After the call for nominations, review submissions and finalize a slate of candidates for the positions of President-Elect, Treasurer-Elect, Secretary-Elect, and Councilors.
  • In evaluating nominations, consider past committee service and likelihood of accepting the position and serving effectively.
  • Contact nominees asked to run for election.

Mission

To ensure the creation of an annual election slate for each Council position opening that takes into account not only the academic excellence, engagement, and commitment of each nominee, but also diversity, including race, gender, and age, along with geographic and scientific diversity to ensure the fulfillment of the SfN mission and strategic plan.

Responsibilities

Manage

  • Solicit candidate nominations from the committees, chapters, Council, and regular and emeritus members of SfN to prepare the annual slate of candidates for the elected offices of the Society - President-Elect, Treasurer-Elect, Secretary, and Councilors.
  • Consider all proposals received from eligible members for officers and councilors, add proposals, and prepare a slate with not less than two and no more than three names for each officer and Council seat to be filled. Due consideration is given to representation of various disciplines of neuroscience.
  • Secure the consent of all candidates to be on the slate and once that consent is obtained, the slate determined by the Nominating Committee is final and does not require approval by Council.

Composition

All members of the Committee on Committees sit on the Nominating Committee. The president of the Society serves as the chair of the committee.

Schedule

The committee meets annually in the spring.
