Society for Neuroscience Welcomes 2020 Latin American Training Program Scholars
Washington, D.C. – The Latin American Training Program (LATP), a year-long online neuroscience training program open to young investigators from Latin America and the Caribbean, welcomes the largest cohort in the Program’s six-year history.
A record-shattering 165 applications were received for the 2020 LATP, a 55% increase in average number of applications compared to the previous six years of the Program’s existence.
The Instituto de Investigaciones Biológicas Clemente Estable (IIBCE) in Montevideo, Uruguay will host a three-week live course titled “Molecules, Cells, and Circuits: Understanding the Nervous System Mechanisms.” The course will bring together top faculty from across the region and world to provide participants with high-quality lectures, lab exercises, and training on vital professional development topics.
After thorough review, IIBCE selected 15 outstanding candidates to participate as LATP Fellows in the live course, set to take place October 4–22, 2021.
In addition to the live course, Fellows will join 89 new Associates in participating in the online components of the Program, including webinars, live chats, and access to the LATP Community — a network of more than 600 Latin American and Caribbean researchers at all career stages.

The LATP provides webinars, recorded content, and online discussions on cutting edge science and professional development topics. Now in its sixth year, the LATP is supported by The Grass Foundation, The Latin American Regional Committee of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO), US/Canada Regional Committee (US/CRC) of IBRO, and the selected host institutions. All eligible candidates are invited to participate in online events as Associates. Each year, 15 top candidates are selected as Fellows to participate in the three-week live course and receive a travel award to attend the SfN annual meeting upon completion of the online program.
