Relief Possible for Revised Human Research Rule Transition

The Common Rule is a group of regulations aimed to protect human research participants that has been recently revised. US Health and Human Services released guidelines for research institutions to implement the revised common rule before revisions take effect six-months from now.

New Alzheimer’s Drug Shows Hints of Promise in Inventive Trial

In phase II clinical trials, Biogen’s and Eisai’s drug BAN2401 reduced early-stage Alzheimer’s patients’ cognitive decline by 30% more than placebo. Although promising, high-doses of the drug also resulted in brain swelling, forcing APOE4 carriers susceptible to brain swelling out of the trial. Their phase III study is expected to produce results by 2020 and follow-up studies will be closely and critically watched.
